Floating University

The Floating University Berlin was a interdisciplinary lab for collective learning and knowledge exchange, utilizing the rainwater basin of the former Tempelhof Airport in 2018 as a venue for seminars, workshops, and discussions on urban practices.

In 2018, the Floating University Berlin was initiated by raumlabor berlin as a temporary inner- city laboratory for collective, experiential learning and transdisciplinary exchange. Students of Design for the Living World at the HFBK Hamburg have been working on water infrastructures and mapping the “urban void”. The water filtration team will research systems to collect, purify and treat rainwater for use. With the completion of the Floating University, the filtration systems will be made available to neighbouring gardeners. The greenhouse team took care of gardening and composting and dealt with this will map the biodiversity of the site and speculate on how this urban void can be preserved in the future.
